An interesting collection relating to this verypopular song. Hoganwas par-
ticular about hiswords, andobjectedwhenhis songwas first published as ‘A
Shawl ..’ rather than ‘Your Shawl ..’. He apparentlywas an active trades unionist,
and at some time secretaryof theEnnisUnitedTrades andLabourCouncil.
