issue of the celebrated ‘Stop Press’ series. A larger folio broadsheet was issued later
in the day, and the broadsheet series continued until after the Four Courts building
was evacuated on Friday. The diary format of this issue gives a powerful impression
of immediacy, marking the actual outbreak of the CivilWar minute byminute. An
exceptionally raredocument. Fine.

Mellowes, Richard Barrett and JoeMcKelvey were executed on 8thDecember, 1922
in reprisal for the assassination of SeanHales, T.D. The executions were the respon-
sibility of KevinO’Higgins,Minister forHomeAffairs, at whoseweddingO’Connor
hadbeenbestman. In very good condition apart from some fraying to the edges and
creasemarks. Rare.
