An original photograph of Rory O’Connor addressing a crowd while standing on the back of a
motor car, guarded by republicans. 12 x 8cm. Rare.With a later very large version of same. Rory
O’Connor (1883-1922) born inDublin and educated at St.Mary’s College, ClongowesWood and
UCD, wherehe graduated inArts andEngineering. After four years inCanadaworking as a rail-
way engineer he returned to Ireland at the request of the I.R.B. andwas wounded in the Easter
Rising of 1916. Hewas interned for a time and became close toMichael Collins. During theWar
of Independence O’Connor became Director of Engineering of the Irish Republican Army. He
rejected theTreaty, becameChairmanof theMilitaryCouncil of the I.R.A., and commanded the
garrison in the Four Courts. Under pressure fromBritain, the government ordered the army to
commenceshelling thebuildingandO’Connorwascaptured.AlongwithLiamMellowes,Richard
Barrett and JoeMcKelveyhewas executedon8thDecember, 1922 in reprisal for theassassination
of SeanHales,T.D.Theexecutionswere the responsibilityofKevinO’Higgins,Minister forHome
Affairs, atwhoseweddingO’Connorhadbeenbestman. Photographs ofRoryO’Connor are very

An original studio photograph, showingO’Leary seated on a couch. 9 x 13cm. Irish separatism
found no nobler or more persistent advocates than in the ranks of the Fenian organisation, the
Irish Republican Brotherhood; and Fenianism had no abler spokesman than JohnO’Leary. His
public career spanned a sixty-year period from theYoung Ireland rising of 1848 to the establish-
ment of SinnFéin in1907. Fine. Rare.

14 x 21cm. Rare. George Reynolds Ringsend, Dublin, was partner in a firm of ecclesiastical art
producers. AprominentGaelic Leaguer, he spentmany vacations in theGaeltacht. He joined the
Volunteers in 1915, andwas a SectionCommander in charge of ClanwilliamHouse, dominating
the entrance into Dublin. For eight hours he and seven comrades prevented the British troops
from entering the city. He and two others, RichardMurphy and PatrickDoyle, were killed and
their bodies incinerated in theburningof thebuilding.
