Provenance: acquired by the current owners in 2009. It was previously purchased at the Punchestown Racecourse, Co. Kildare.

The Crown Jewellers, Garrard’s was founded by George Wickes around
1722. Soon after 1735 he was appointed as goldsmith to the Price of
Wales. Robert Garrard took a senior role in the firm in 1802 and thus
cemented the name Garrard.
Many 19th century commissions were for Royalty and the aristocracy
and can be found in museums, national institutions and important
private collections around the world. In 1843, Queen Victoria
bestowed the honour of the Crown Jeweller on the company.
The main themes associated with Garrard’s, were ceremony, pageantry
and great sporting events. They are renowned for their superb silver
craftsmanship. Some presentation trophies include, the Aga Khan;
Dubai World Cup; the Cricket World Cup; the Premier League Trophy;
the Ascot, Doncaster and Goodwood Cups and, in 1848, The America’s
Cup.
Edwina Emery, a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors
was retained exclusively by Garrard. It is said that she crafted four
silver horses whilst with Garrard’s, of which this is one. Internationally
renowned for the proud tradition of working with the world’s greatest
craftsmen, this is their accolade:
