Dublin c.1760, mark of John Moore (fl.1724-67), with shaped
foliate border, the centre with a coat of arms within a rococo
cartouche of scrolls and bulrushes, flower heads, and chased
(somewhat later) with an outer border of scrolls and fruit, raised
on four scroll feet (c.69ozs, scratch weight of “71ozs”). 43cm

Dublin 1817, makers mark of RC, with gadrooned collar, enclosing
a domed lid with flower-head finial, leaf capped handle, the body
with scrolling foliage over a matt ground, on central foot (c.23ozs).

Dublin 1811, mark of James Scott, crested, the body later engraved
“used by three generations of the Persse family, masters of the
Castle Boy Blazers, Co. Galway Hunt. Burton Persse MFH,
b.1751-d.1829, Burton Persse MF b.1782-d.1859, Burton R.P.
Persse MFH b.1828-d.1885”. 15cm high
This records a family of Galway squires, a cadet branch of
Roxborough , seated a Moyode Castle, the typified Barrignton’s
classification “gentlemen to the backbone” and the first mentioned
married Anchoretta, daughter of Giles Eyre, immortalised in the
song “A Man for Galway”
