Carved white marble, 101cm high
Provenance: The private collection of Sir Henry Tate (the donor of The Tate Gallery), Park Hill,
Streatham Common, London. This was sold at auction by Douglas Young & Co., 16th-21st February,
1920, on the death of Dame Amy Tate. Sir Henry Tate was the present vendor’s direct maternal ances-
tor and Young’s invoice shows seven lots, including this one, sold to Mr. Madden. The Hilton Park
copy of the catalogue states that Sir Henry acquired his extensive collections of marbles from sculptors
including Salvatore Albano both in Florence and Rome.
