A PAIR OF CHAMPLEVÉ ENAMEL CHINOISERIE VASES, FRENCH LATE 19TH CENTURY,
attributed to Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810 - 1892) raised on excellent contemporary neo - classical ormolu stands,
50 cm high.
The firms of Barbedienne and Christofle competed to supply the ‘belle epoque’ for all things oriental. They
achieved a staggering quality in enamelling and gilding and the present consideration of the oriental and neo-
classical recalls the prestigious success with which French bronzeurs mounted Chinese objects in the 17th and
18th centuries.
