A PAIR OF IRISH REGENCY MAHOGANY TUB BACK NEO-GRECIAN LIBRARY
CHAIRS, ATTRIBUTED TO GILLINGTON’S,
the deep coved backs supported by carved scroll brackets on channelled pilasters, the seat rails outlined
by continuous reeding, each raised on two reeded sabre legs to the front and two splayed sabre legs to
the rear, all on tapering brass caps with casters.
Provenance: St. Iberius Church, Wexford
George and Samuel Gillington were a firm of Dublin furniture makers active during the first half of
the 19th century. The company predominantly traded from No.119 Abbey Street where they designed
and produced high quality furnishings utilising contemporary pattern books.
The design of these chairs corresponds closely to a set supplied by Gillington to Euseby Cleaver, the
Lord Archbishop of Dublin from 1809 to 1820 and were indented for use in his residence, Palace House,
St. Stephens Green, which is now the Kildare Street & University Club.

A JAPANNED LONG CASE CLOCK, EARLY 18TH CENTURY,
the arched hood enclosing a movement with steel engraved face and chapter ring, signed
“James Smyth,
Woodbridge
” on a brass frame, surmounted by a painted moon-phase aperture, the trunk with single
door, having chinoiserie decoration and a painted panel depicting a nobleman with a saintly figure.
