Two holograph letters signed from Benjamin Disraeli to Sir Arthur
Guinness Bart. M.P.; two holograph letters from W.E. Gladstone;
also a letter from Henry Irving from the LyceumTheatre 1/7/1897
foregoing a luncheon appointment with Lady Ardilaun.
Both Sir Arthur and his father were ardent supporters of the
conservative party. When Sir Arthur lost the city of Dublin
Disraeli (Lord Beaconsfield) supported his craving for a peerage
and he subsequently became Lord Ardilaun, (the name of an island
on Lough Corrib)

vignettes of the house party, original green cloth, lined and lettered
in gilt with a depiction of Ashford from the lake. 235 x 300mm
An archly humorous doggerel with illustrations, in the style of
Edward Lear, of a house party at Ashford. It illustrates the house
before its extensive re-building and enlargement.
The ‘wit’ leaves plenty of clues as to his identity and that of the
other guests which would repay research.

“I quite understand that your house is

with autograph envelope initialled “G” and Prince of Wales
embossed crest.
