A GEORGE I INLAID WALNUT SEAWEED
MARQUETRY LONGCASE CLOCK
by Nicholas Lambert of London circa 1715, the inked brass dial with date
aperture and seconds ring decorated with an engraved basket of fruit flanked
by swallows, the five pillar month duration movement with hatched centre,
half-hour passing strike, hour repeat with snail/star wheel and strike/silent
mechanism, signed on the chapter ring, the 12” dial with turned banded
head spandrels and engraved borders denoting chairmen member of the
Clockmaker’s Guild, the hood with moulded cornice, blind fret frieze and
plain pilasters above a waisted case with single door having glazed circular
aperture the entire fascia of the case profusely inlaid with foliate scrolls, birds
of paradise, anthemions and fantastic animals and raised on platform base.
