FOLLY

BY TIMOTHY RICHARDS OF BATH, raised on an

ebonised base. 29.3cm high x 26 x 9.5cm

Connolly’s Folly is an obelisk structure built within

Castletown Estate by Catherine Connolly, widow of

speaker William Connolly, to provide employment

when the famine of 1740/41 was at its worst. It was

designed by architect Richard Castle.
