Bearing inscription verso: “Thomas Addis Emmett by

William O’Carroll, 57 Henry St. Dublin”

T.A. Emmett, 1764-1827, Lawyer, United Irishman

and brother to Robert Emmet. He went into exile in

Belgium and France before going to America were he

had a successful legal and political career. A friend of

Thomas Payne, he wrote a biography of his brother.
