H: 3,6 cm - D: 6,7 cm Provenance: - a private collection; - formerly the property of Otto Gürgen, a German prominent industrialist in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the 1930s (by repute). Note: Because the Buddha is often depicted as seated on a lotus, the lotus is considered a sacred Buddhist symbol (one of Eight Auspicious Symbols) representing purity and detach- ment from worldly cares. € 300 - 500 128A A PORCELAIN ‘LOTUS’ CUP CHINA, QING DYNASTY It rests on a short ring foot and has a round body with an everted rim. It is finely enamelled with lotus flowers and peonies. The palette of colours combined the underglaze cobalt blue, the yellow, the red, the pink as well as gilt. The base bears an apocryphal six-character mark of Emperor Kangxi in underglaze cobalt blue and kaishu script.
