114 201 A JADE EMBELLISHED SILVER BOX AND COVER OF OVAL SHAPE THE JADE: CHINA, LATE QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY THE SILVER BOX: EUROPE The jade plaque is carved in low relief with a woven basket, tao peaches, leaves as well as a flying bat. Dimensions (the box): H: 5 cm - L:13,3 cm - width: 11,5 cm Gross weight: 534 grams Note: Peaches have traditionally been associated with Daoism and longevity. In mythology, the goddess Xiwangmu, the Queen Mother of the West, owned a vast peach orchard, and it was said that anyone who ate the fruit would become immortal. As such, peaches are considered sacred and auspi- cious, and when used as a decorative motif, convey wishes for longevity and good fortune. 玉石镶嵌带盖椭圆银盒 玉石部分:中国,晚清, 19 世纪 € 1,500 - 3,000 202 A JADEITE JADE EMBELLISHED STERLING SILVER ‘LOTUS POND’ POWDER BOX OR VANI- TY CASE THE JADEITE JADE {PLAQUE INSCRIBED WITH A POETRY BY QIÁN Q Ǐ 錢起 (710-782) CHINA, CIRCA 1900 Of rectangular shape, opening by a lid retained by hinges. The top of the lid is chiseled with a land- scape with characters and ladles and embellished with a jadeite jade plaque inscribed with a poetry by Qián Q ǐ ( 錢起 - 710-782). It is further inscribed with a mark ‘ 大 清 ’ (Dà qīng) combined with an unidentified mark. The base is nat- uralistically engraved with a lotus pond. Bears a mark: ‘China Sterling no 23’. L: 8,1 cm Gross weight: 89,4 grams Notes: The poetry on this powder case is ‘From my Study at the Mouth of the Valley’ ( 谷口书斋寄杨补阙 ) by Qián Q ǐ ( 錢起 - 710-782, Tang Dynasty). € 200 - 400
