263 PETITION 1942An original petition form addressed to His Grace the Duke of Abercorn, Governor
of Northern Ireland, seeking clemency forThomasWilliams and five others sen-
tenced to death over ‘the tragedy which resulted I n the death of Constable Patrick
Murphy’. Single sheet, folio size, unfilled.
Williams was executed on 18 August 1842; the others were reprieved and their
sentences commuted to imprisonment.
With an offprint of an article in French on ‘La Question Irlandaise’ byW.Allison
Phillips, Bologna 1918.
