145 A PRIVATE COLLECTION FROM THE SOUTH OF FRANCE 124 SAMURAI SWORD XVII°CENTURI : Wakizashi in Shirasaya (kiri wood scabbard) Signed on Omote side: “Fujiwara Kunitaka Saku Kore” (this made by Fujiwara Kunitaka)& dated on Ura side: “Kwan Bun Nen Hachi Gatsu Jyu Hi” (A lucky day of 10th month of the 8th year of the Kanbun Era, i.e. 1668). There were several Kunitaka among Japanese blacksmiths, but only one signed with the honorary title of Fujiwara, who practised during the Kanbun Era which began in 1661, and who lived in Osaka in the province of Settsu. Ref: Hawley-Tome1 KUN 1254 p298. - Tsukurikomi (shape of the blade): Shinogi zukuri (foursides), Hiro Mune (two-sides back of the blade), Ubu Nakago (the han- dle part of the blade with its original length, not shortened) with one Mekugi Ana (hole for the peg). Ko Kissaki (short point) with a Ko Boshi (small return of the hardening line from the point to the back of the blade). -Nagasa (length of the cutting edge); 45 cm. -Hada (thicknes of the blade): 0,6 cm. -Sori Asai (curve of the blade): 0,4 cm. -Ji Hada (steel grain): Itame type(resembling a wooden board). -Hamon (temper line): Suguha (straight) type € 2,000 - 2,500
