A SET OF FOUR PLASTER CAST RELIEF PANELS,
depicting The Four Seasons personified as putti in landscapes.
52 x 89cm
Provenance: Glenageary Hall, Co. Dublin
Glenageary Hall, built in about 1830, was one of several impressive residences in the hinterland of early 19th century Dun Laoghaire. The area was
favoured by well-to-do stockbrokers, wine merchants and professionals whose offices were in Dublin. Thomas L’Estrange is the earliest recorded resi-
dent of Glenageary Hall. A Justice of the Peace from West Meath, he may have been responsible for the Italianate decoration of the house, both inside
and out. An elaborate architrave, mouldings and pilasters embellished the exterior, while the interior was ornamented with large plaster panels, many
of which appear to have come from the noted Thorvaldsen Collection in Copenhagen.
These two sets of impressive and highly decorated panels were saved from Glenageary Hall before it’s demolition in 1978.
