Fine Asian Art | 28-29 & 30 June 2022 59 Additional information and photographs for all lots can be found at www.adams.ie 84 FORMERLY THE PROPERTY OF SENOR JORGE CASARES: A REPUTED ARGENTINIAN ORNITHOLOGIST (BY REPUTE) A DEHUA / BLANC DE CHINE MOLDED FIGURE OF A GUANYIN CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 18TH TO 19TH CENTURY The Goddess of Mercy is seated in rajalalisana on a rockwork throne, draped in a long cowled robe obscuring the high, ornamented coiffure, the soft, serene face with delicate features and a pointed chin, a large lotus necklace set against the bare chest and above the belted undergarment, originally holding a scroll (here missing) iin one of the delicate hands extending from a sleeve of luxuriant folds, a sutra text resting on an integral rock pedestal just behind the figure, the white clay body covered in a transparent, creamy-ivory glaze pooling in the recesses of the modeling and folds. H: 31,3 cm Provenance: - a private collection; - Señor Jorge Casares, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a reputed ornithologist born in a wealthy landowning family, also a relative of the renowned Argentinian fiction author Adolfo Bioy Casares (1914-1999) and a fellow of W.H. Hudson (1921-1982), an Argentinian-borned British Naturalist and Ornithologist. He is praised to have donated his library to the Sociedad Ornitológica del Plata (by repute). Dark brown to light brown patina. H: 36 Weight: More than 5000 grams.
