56 78 A FINE AND RARE MAYBE DEHUA BLANC DE CHINE SOFT-PASTE PORCELAIN ‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ TEAPOT AND COVER 精美稀有的德化“龙凤”带盖白瓷茶壶 CHINA, QING DYNASTY 中国,清代中期 The body is of compressed round shape and is adorned with the body of a bird whose face and beak are forming the spout. Opposite to the latter is a C-scroll handle formed by the arched body of a dragon. The domed cover has a steam vent below the arched body of a smaller dragon. The point of the spout has a small kintsugi restoration. H: 10,5 cm Notes: 1. This piece may also be described as a wine pot and cover. 2. Whilst similar dehua teapots or winepots have a handle formed by the arched body of a dragon and some other similar pieces have a spout shaped as a bird face, this piece stands out in the sense that a complete bird is rendered, with its body deployed on the side of the spout. This denotes a high-quality piece created by a skilful potter. 3. For a related dehua teapot very similar to ours for its finial and its handle and dated to the 17th-18th century, please refer to CHRISTIE’S New York, USA, 2012- 09-14, lot 1494, sold for USD 22,500. € 6,000 - 8,000
