54 74 FORMERLY THE PROPERTY OF CARLOS ALFREDO TORNQUIST ALTGELT (1885-1953): A PROMINENT ARGENTINIAN BANKER AND DIPLOMAT (BY REPUTE) A LARGE DEHUA / BLANC DE CHINE PORCELAIN FRAGMENT O F A BEAKER VASE, YENYEN CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY It has a trumpet foot and a globular central part of the body surmounted by a trumpet neck. It is either molded or carved with lotus scrolls under a covering white glaze of light ivory tone. H: 38,6 cm Provenance: - a private Collection; - Carlos Alfredo Tornquist Altgelt (1885-1953, by repute). € 600 - 800 75 A POSSIBLY DEHUA / BLANC DE CHINE VASE OF ARCHAISTIC FANGHU SHAPE CHINA, QING DYNASTY It rests on a base shaped as a scroll and imitating what would have been a matching wooden stand. It has a faceted body surmounted by a trumpet neck. It is molded with medallions in low relief, one on each side, the frontal one engraved with a five-character inscription, the back one engraved with a landscape, the side ones with a lotus pond and blossoming plum flowers. It is possibly signed by two (2) impressed seals located next to the inscription. It is all covered in a white glaze of light ivory tone. H: 29,2 cm € 800 - 1,500 73 FORMERLY THE PROPERTY OF CARLOS ALFREDO TORNQUIST ALTGELT (1885- 1953): A PROMINENT ARGENTINIAN BANKER AND DIPLOMAT (BY REPUTE) A LARGE AND THICKLY POTTED CELADON GLAZED STONEWARE VASE CHINA, POSSIBLY MING DYNASTY It rests on an unglazed ring foot with an orange color, has a waisted lower part and a globular elongated body surmounted by a trumpet neck. It is either molded or carved with a decor of leaves scrolls under a celadon glaze. H: 56,4 cm Provenance: - a private Collection; - Carlos Alfredo Tornquist Altgelt (1885-1953, by repute). Note: Carlos Alfredo Tornquist Altgelt (1885-1953) was the President of the banking house of Ernesto Tornquist Co., Ltd., and a member of a prominent Argentinian family. A person of influence, he is also known to have played a crucial role in helping to avoid a war between Argentina and Chile in 1902 by managing the British mediation in the border dispute. Throughout the years, he maintained a close friendship with Argentina Presidents Julio A. Roca (1843-1914) and Carlos Pellegrini (1846-1906). € 1,500 - 3,000
