It has a curled tail and reins attached to its mouth. Sold together with a matching collector wooden stand. L: 11,5 cm Weight: 675,4 grams Provenance: Property from a French collector: a collection of jade and stone carvings and snuff bottles assembled over two decades. Pieces either bought privately or at public auction. Note: The ox is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. A boy, or cowherd, riding an ox, represents the early humble beginnings of Emperor Tai Zu of the Ming Dynasty. Because of their importance to agriculture, the water buffalo or ox (niu - 牛 ) symbolizes springtime, harvest and fertility. With a reticulated decor of five peaches, leaves, rocks and a lingbi rock. L: 9 cm - width: 7,5 cm Weight: 102,7 grams Provenance: Property from a French collector: a collection of jade and stone carvings and snuff bottles assembled over two decades. Pieces either bought privately or at public auction. Note: The peach (tao - 桃 ) signifies the second month of the lunar calendar.
