42 40 PROPERTIES FROM A FRENCH COLLECTOR OF JADE CARVINGS AND SNUFFBOTTLES A WHITE JADE CARVING OF A CURLED UP BOY HOLDING A LOTUS SPRIG CHINA, MAYBE QING DYNASTY This small boy with a lovely round face with almond eyes is depicted curled up and holding a lotus sprig on which he is also standing. The skilful carver has open-worked the lower part to depict its subject. It has also enhanced it with engraved and incised details such as the hair. Sold together with a matching wooden collector stand. L: 6,4 cm Weight: 70 grams Provenance: Property from a French collector: a collection of jade and stone carvings and snuff bottles assembled over two decades. Pieces either bought privately or at public auction. Note: A boy together with a lotus sprig conveys the wish ‘tongzi lianzi’ ( 童子莲子 ) standing for a continuous and harmonious descent. This boy figure is interesting in the sense that its position is similar to that of an apsara. 童子白玉雕 中国 € 3,000 - 5,000 41 PROPERTIES FROM A FRENCH COLLECTOR OF JADE CARVINGS AND SNUFFBOTTLES A CHICKEN BONE JADE SEATED MYTHI- CAL BEAST OR TIGER CHINA, MING STYLE This mythical beast, possibly a tiger, has been carved out of a single pebble of chicken bone jade. It is depicted as seated, standing on its two forelegs whilst resting on its two hind legs, with its head bending between its two forelegs and its tail folded under its body. It has a round back and globular eyes highlighted with curvy eyebrows. Finely detailed with engravings such as curls on the ears and on the forelegs as well as claws.
