10 *§A WHITE JADE ‘PLUM FLOWER’ SNUFF BOTTLE CHINA, QING DYNASTY Carved out of a single piece of pale celadon jade. The body is of elongated compressed form, with round shoulders, two carved ‘beast’ handles imitating loose rings, a waisted and short cylindrical neck with a slightly everted rim. The skilful carver used the vein in the stone to pick out the design. The inner part is very well hollowed. Offered at auction together with a stopper. H (stopper excluded): 6,5 cm Weight: 82,4 grams Note: The five petals of the plum blossom symbolize the ‘five blessings’ (wufu - 五福 ). Also known as the ‘five happinesses’, these five blessings refer to longevity ( 寿 ), wealth ( 富 ), health and composure ( 康宁) , virtue ( 修 好德) , and the desire to die a natural death in old age ( 考终命) . It rests on a ring foot and has a flattened pear-shaped body surmounted by a tubular neck flanked by two ‘beast mask’ handles with loose rings imitation. The inner part is well hollowed. Sold together with a stopper.
