All pieces have bamboo-shaped handles. All pieces are adorned with bamboo. Each piece bears marks amidst which: ‘C.J.’ for the tray, ‘LTH’ for the creampot, ‘LTH’ for the sugar bowl, ‘L.T.H.’ for the teapot and ‘C.J.Co.’ for the coffee pot. All pieces are resting on a spread foot, have a compressed round body and have handles and beak shaped as bamboo. The two lidded pieces have their cover of dome shape topped by a bamboo shape finial. All pieces are finely worked in repousse to depict dragons. On the base of each piece, there is a mark: ‘C.J.’, that of the maker. H (the biggest, the teapot together with its lid): 15 cm Total weight: 820,9 grams Provenance: a noted collector of Chinese Export Silver wares. 中国出口 “ 龙与竹 ” 三件套 中国,上海,晚清时期, 20 世纪早期 € 2,000 - 4,000 212 PROPERTIES FROM A NOTED COLLECTOR OF CHINESE EXPORT SILVER *A CHINESE EXPORT SILVER ‘DRAGON’ TEA CADDY AND COVER BY WANH HING & CO CHINA, CANTON / GUANGZHOU, EARLY 20TH CENTURY Of round shape, nicely worked in repousse to depict a flying four-claw dragon whose body is coiled around the box and a further flying four- claw dragon on the top of the lid. The base bears three (3) marks in total: the first one is a Chinese ideogram; the second one is ‘WH’ for Wang Hing, the company name; the third one may be read as ‘OG’ (?), possibly the maker mark.
