Fine Asian Art | 28-29 & 30 June 2022 107 Additional information and photographs for all lots can be found at www.adams.ie 183 A PAIR OF ‘EGG AND SPINACH’ POR- CELAIN QUAIL-FORM BOXES AND LIDS CHINA, LATE QING DYNASTY TO RE- PUBLIC / MINGUO PERIOD Naturalistically molded as two recumbent quails. All enhanced in vivid ‘egg and spinach’, ‘arlequin’ or ‘famille verte’ enam- els combining green, yellow and brown enamels. With a rare attention to details as visible when looking at the bases where the legs are depicted. H: 10,3 cm - L: 17 cm Note: Fighting quails (anchun 鵪鶉 ) seem to have amused elites in Song times, when raising them appears to have been widespread. Information on how to raise and fight quails is preserved in a rare manual entitled ‘Anchun lun’ 論 (Discussions on Quails) published in 1715. The quail signifies courage because of its fighting spirit. It is often used as a visual pun (or rebus) because it is pronounced the same as the word ‘peace’ (an 安 ). 一对带盖鹌鹑造型瓷盒 中国，清晚期至民国 € 600 - 800 184 A FLAMBE / TRANSMUTATION GLAZED PORCELAIN BOTTLE VASE CHINA, QING DYNASTY It has a compressed globular body surmounted by a tubular neck. It is covered overall with a thick milky lavender glaze with purple splashes or accents. H: 34 cm 窑变釉瓷花瓶 中国，清代， 18-19 世纪 € 400 - 600 185 A PURPLE ACCENTS FLAMBE / TRANSMUTATION GLAZED POR- CELAIN BOTTLE VASE CHINA, POSSIBLY LATE QING DYNASTY The outer part is all covered with an oxblood glaze with purple accents. H: 19 cm 紫色窑变釉花瓶 中国 € 600 - 800 183A A PURPLE SPLASHED CRACKLE CELADON PORCELAIN VASE OF AR- CHAISTIC HU SHAPE CHINA, QING DY- NASTY It rests on a high spread foot and has an angled globular body surmounted by a trum- pet neck. It is all covered with a crackled celadon glaze with purple accents or splashes. H: 32 cm € 1000 – 2000
