Dublin born LilyWilliams was first taught by May Manning and later went on to study under
Orpen at the Metropolitan School of Art, where her contemporaries included Estella Solo-
mons, Beatrice Glenavy and Cissie Beckett.Well known for her Republican sympathies she fell
out with her family at the time of the Rising. Her portrait of Arthur Griffith is in the Hugh Lane
Gallery collection.
