hallmarks for Dublin 1803, mark of James Keating, the top with a border of bright cut foliate decoration and integral hinged lid

engraved with the Dublin Guild of Merchants coat of arms, the panelled sides also with bright cut decoration, the base inscribed

“Michaelmas Quarter 1799The Guild of MerchantsVoted this Box accompanied with a suitable Addrefs to Fred Darley Esqr.late High Sheriff of the

City of Dublin as a Mark of their Esteem for his Spirited & Exemplary Conduct in that of Important Office”

and inscribed with signatures of the

Masters andWardens, with gilt interior, (c.105g). 8 x 5.5cm

Fred Darley was Lord Mayor of Dublin 1808-09. He married Elizabeth Guinness, sister of Arthur Guinness II.
