142 A SMALL 18TH CENTURY SEVRES ECUELLE, Cover and Stand, c.1771,

the ecuelle of circular form with twin twist branch handles, the

domed cover with similar branch finial, the cover and body decorat-

ed with cartouches depicting military figures making merry within

enamelled beaded borders, against a turquoise pointillé ground,

12cms diameter (dish 20 x 16.5 cms)

with marks for 1778, with gilt metal mounts, gilded and painted

the main reserve finely painted with a goose on the banks of a

lake within gilt edged borders apllied with single scroll handle; the

saucer painted with an eagle contesting a snake contained within

gilt and magenta border, each with Sevres factory mark to base,

and incised under glaze with initials ‘SD’.
