295 AN 18TH CENTURY MILANESE NEO-CLASSICAL INLAID WALNUT AND MARQUETRY

in the style of G. Maggiolini, the top with central lozenge and leaf scrolls on a quarter veneered ground,

within a border of bound leaf banding, the central twin drawers decorated with an urn and scrolls,

surmounted by a short drawer decorated with vitruvian scroll banding. 119.5cm wide

Provenance: by repute, Westport House

The present lot displays the characteristics of the master Milanese cabinet maker Giuseppe Maggiolini

(1738-1814). He developed a distinct style based on a neo-classical repertoire such as the urn and ‘Roman’

accanthus displayed on this piece.
