A FINE VICTORIAN IRISH SILVER CLARET JUG,
Dublin 1852, mark of Robert W. Smith, inscribed beneath the hallmarks
‘T. Bennet Feet Dublin’, the lobed baluster form jug with hinged lid and
cast grape finial with s-scroll handle, the body decorated with repoussé
and chased upright flowers sprouting from leaf fronds, the central car-
touche inscribed “Presented to George Gardiner Esq. by the inhabitants
of Carrick-on-Suir and Vicinity as a token of respect on his being pro-
moted to management of the National Bank of Ireland, February 1854’,
raised on leaf sprouting base with cast and chased vine spreading foot
(c.44ozs). 36cm tall
