Largely self-taught Lowndes was born in Cheshire. He moved to Cornwall in 1959,
where he became a friend of Conor and Nancy. Many of his paintings deal with the
industrial and working class area where he grew up, although he employs a bright and
colourful palette. His work was included in the Tate Gallery show
St Ives 1939-1964
held
in London in 1985.
