Edmund Fitzpatrick was employed as an illustrator by the Illustrated London News to document the Irish famine as it happened. Born in
Kilkenny, he studied at the Royal Dublin Society, winning a medal there in 1843. He moved to London for a time, where he exhibited at the
Royal Society of British Artists. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy from an address as 45 William Street Dublin, and was made an
ARHA in 1862 and went back to London where he worked as a newspaper illustrator until 1870, when he returned to Kilkenny.
