Originally from Belfast, Hector McDonnell began his
studies in Munich and Vienna where he studied under
secessionist sculptor Hans Wotruba. McDonnell received
his degree in History from Oxford University and has
travelled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. During
the 1970’s and 1980’s he spent most of his time in London
where he was represented by Fischer Fine Art, but more
recently has settled in Antrim and exhibits regularly at the
Solomon Gallery in Dublin.
McDonnell has received international recognition, ex-
hibiting at shows in Paris, Madrid, and across Germa-
ny where he had a retrospective in 1981 and won the
Darmstadter Kunstpreis.
