6 A LARGE VICTORIAN SILVER PRESENTATION MONTEITH,

London 1899, maker’s mark of Charles Stuart Harris, the wavy raised cast figural rim sur

mounted at intervals by heads of putti within chased and engraved scrolling decoration, over

a beaded and ribbed bowl applied with central feathered cartouche and bold cast lion mask

ring handles to either side, raised on spreading gadrooned circular base, the cartouche

inscribed “Royal Dublin Society Sheep Show Challenge Cup For The Best Three Shearling

Rams In The Roscommon Classes Bred and Owned By An Exhibitor President in Ireland”, the

bowl also bearing inscriptions to the underside “Won By 1913 George R. Acheson”, “won By

1919 George R. Acheson”, “Won By 1920 George R. Acheson”, (c.2,301.6g). 24.5cm
