The Rolex Ref. 3484 chronograph is one of the rarest pre-Daytona chronographs, produced in very small quantities in the 1940s. Powered by the 13-lignes Rolex chronograph calibre based on the Valjoux 23, it embodies the elegant yet technical chronographs of the era, before the advent of Oyster-cased sports chronographs. Examples of Ref. 3484 appear only rarely at auction, particularly in 18K gold. Its combination of antimagnetic case, gilt dial with tachymeter and telemeter scales, and its fine preservation make it an important discovery for collectors. It stands alongside the better-known references 2508 and 3330 as a key witness to Rolex’s early chronograph production, and a milestone for enthusiasts of the brand’s pre-Daytona heritage.
