The full dimensions of the set are 30.5 x 19 x 9 cm. The Cultivating Uprightness Painting (Yangzheng Tu), also known as the Illustrations of Imperial Virtues (Shenggong Tu), is an educational work with an enlightening nature. It compiles legendary stories and historical anecdotes from King Wen of Zhou to the Song dynasty, promoting loyalty to the sovereign, filial piety, brotherly respect, honesty, and other Confucian ethical principles and codes of conduct. It elabo- rates on Confucian doctrines such as the moral order and the Five Virtues—benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and integrity. The work encourages imperial princes to cultivate themselves through attention tominor details, ultimately aiming for the governance of the country and the peace of the world. As a result, it was highly valued and praised by rulers of both the Ming and Qing dynasties. Emperor Qian- long composed poems for it, Emperor Jiaqing wrote eulogies, and Emperor Guangxu ordered the work and its imperial verses to be engraved and distributed.
