The Qianlong Emperor held a strong preference for cloisonné enamel work, and this pas- sion continued into the Jiaqing era. He played a pivotal role in the revival of this intricate art form on a grand scale after a period of neglect during the reign of the Yongzheng Em- peror. Cloisonné-imitation pieces, like the present brushpot, were crafted in both enameled porcelain and copper during the Jiaqing period. In these pieces, finely painted golden lines skillfully imitated the wires that traditionally separated the various colors in cloisonné enamel, resulting in pieces that beautifully emulated the style, artistry, and charm of this ancient technique.
