Over his long and prolific career, Lin embraced a diverse range of stylistic influences in his work, becoming one of the first Chinese artists to deeply explore European modern art while maintaining a connection to traditional ink painting. Birds were a favorite subject of Lin Fengmian, evoking memories of his childhood spent playing in the forest, immersed in nature.
