82 611 A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED BOIS SATINE, KINGWOOD AND MARQUETRY BED BY FRANÇOIS LINKE, CIRCA 1900 The serpentine headboard centred by a surmounted scallop shell and foli- age flanked by stylised dolphin corner mounts, the footboard with central cartouche and scroll sabots joined by conforming rails, incised ‘F. Linke’, 167cm, high, 166cm wide, 203cm long € 4,000 - 6,000 Provenance: Private Collection, Dublin. François Linke (1855‑1946) was born in Pankraz, Bohemia. He was a French ébéniste of the late 19th/early 20th centu- ry and is considered by many as one of the most celebrated furniture makers of the Belle Époque. His greatest source of inspiration was the ancienne régime of Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, which were revived in the designs. An association was developed with the sculptor Léon Messagé, which resulted in extravagant pieces while complimenting the latest fashion of Paris. Linke’s success came to fruition when he was awarded the Medaille d’Or for his Grand Bureau at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle.
