With bookplate for Edmund Dave Wickham Provenance: Edmund Dawe Wickham; thence by descent € 1,000 - 1,500 734 AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF FRENCH ORNITOLOGICAL PAINTINGS (CIRCA 1830’S) In two bound albums, comprising fifty-five examples mainly relating to the illustra- tions by Paul Louis OUDART and Louis Jean Pierre VIEILLOT in the publication “La Galerie des Oiseaux” Watercolour, bodycolour and gum arabic, inscribed with manuscript titles in pencil On mixed paper types laid into album, one loose leaf loose with visible Whatman date mark for 1834. Various dimensions, most of which on leaves 29 x 21.5cm, others larger approx 28 x 38cms The albums also including a quantity of still life studies after Thomas Holland and a quantity of Natural History studies relating to insects and botany. One leaf painted with a coat of arms, possibly relating to the Kirwan family, with doves, shield and motto banner ‘J’aime mon Dieu, mon Roi, et mon pais’ translating to ‘I love my God, my King and my Country’ € 3,000 - 5,000 735 BARKER, ROBERT (D.1643) [PRINTER] Holy Bible: Conteyning the Old Testament and the New:: Newly Translated out of the Originall Tongues, London, 1613/1611, Robert Barker. Second folio edition the ‘Great She Bible’. Black letter text in double columns, 59 lines, printed within ruled border with enclosed inner and outer margins for sidenotes, roman type for chapter summaries, roman and italic for side-notes, general and New Testament title within ornate woodcut border (McKerrow & Ferguson 231), calendar in red and black, woodcut historiated and decorated initials, headbands and tailpieces, Lacking map. New Testament ends on Revelation 20 v.12 (incomplete) lacking 21 & 22. {Herbert 319; STC 2224] With the reading ‘She went into the citie’ Ruth 3 v.15 and the error ‘Judas’ written instead of ‘Jesus’ in Matthew 26 v.36 (with cut-out typed section with correction Jesus stuck down). Black calf binding, ridged spine, gilt details Inscribed to inside pages with Wickham family tree beginning in 1565 - 1599 and again 1801 - 1874 by James Anthony Wickham. With printed notes on the prove- nance of the bible from 1717 onwards.
