312 Country House Col lections 793 WILLIAM OLIVER (1823-1901) Portrait of a Young Lady, Three Quarter Length, in a Green Satin Dress Oil on canvas, 61 x 46cm Signed and dated 1886 € 2,000 - 3,000 792 STYLE OF HUGH DOUGLAS HAMILTON (1740-1808) Portraits of Edmund Butler, 11th Viscount Mountgar- ret (1745-1793) and His Wife Henrietta Butler, Vis- countess Mountgarret (1750-1785) A pair, oil on canvas, 72.5 x 54.5cm Edmund Butller, 11th Viscount Mountgarret, was a member of parliament in the House of Commons for Kilkenny County from 1776-1779. He was a mem- ber of the powerful Butler dynasty, the Butlers of Ormond, who owned and resided in Kilkenny Castle from 1391-1967. His wife, Henrietta Hamilton Butler, Viscountess Mountgarret, was born on 15th August 1750 at Bal- lylinch Castle, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. She was the daughter of Somerset Hamilton Butler, 1st Earl of Carrick and Lady Juliana (nee Juliana Boyle), Count- ess of Carrick (1727/8-1804), daughter of the Earl of Shannon. Somerset Hamilton Butler, father of Henrietta Ham- ilton Butler, upon his marriage to Lady Juliana Boyle, purchased 1500 acres of land across the River Nore from his father’s castle Ballylinch and refashioned an existing house which he renamed ‘Mount Juliet’ after his wife. Henrietta Hamilton Butler died at Mount Juliet, Thom- astown, Co. Kilkenny, on 16th June 1785. € 5,000 - 7,000 794 W.
