245 Country House Collections|18 th & 19 th October 2021 625 AN IMPORTANT LARGE IRISH SILVER 18TH CENTURY RACING CUP, by Samuel Walker, Dublin c.1760, awarded to the bay gelding ‘Wrangler’ by Coalition owned by Alexander Sanderson Esq., the two handle cup of baluster form, with domed lid with pineapple finial, the entire decorated with chased and repousse bands of continuous fruiting vines and bacchanalian revellers, cartouche shaped vignettes of horses racing in full flight, the central leaf formed cartouche engraved with a horse and rider above the name ‘Wrangler’, the entire raised on a circular spreading foot, (c.103 troy ozs). 33.5cm tall € 10,000 - 15,000 Mr. Sanderson is a frequent listed owner in race cards for the 1760s and the horse Wrangler is listed as racing in 1761.
