102 Country House Collections 148 A RARE IRISH WILLIAM III SILVER BLEEDING BOWL, of plain circular form c.1699, with flat waisted handle, engraved with a crest of a dagger held aloft by an arm “C RUX CHRISTI NOSTRA CORONA ”, (c.60 troy ozs). 12.5cm diameter. This would appear to have belonged to Dr. Mercer, a leading Dublin medic of the day, whose name was perpetuated by Mercer’s Hos- pital founded by Mary Mercer.
