Elizabeth Burke daughter of Sir John Burke of Derrymac
laghtny, County Galway. That branch of the Burkes who were near
kinsmen of the Earl and Marquis of Clanricarde were along with
the latter the largest landowners in the barony of Clare, County
Galway. Alexander McDonnell, 9th and present Earl of Antrim
is descended through the female line from the Derrymaclaghtny
family. Elizabeth’s sister Helena Burke, married Alexander
McDonnell, 3rd Earl of Antrim.
Elizabeth married, firstly, Thomas Dillon, 5th Viscount Dillon
of Costello-Gallen, County Mayo, son of Thomas Dillon, 4th
Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallen and Frances White. Elizabeth
Burke was styled as Viscountess Dillon of Costello-Gallen in 1674.
She married secondly Sheffield Grace.
