Birmingham 1836, mark of Nathaniel Mills, the hinged rectan-
gular top in low relief depicting Abbotsford House, moulded
rims, the back and sides with tartan engine turning and central
dolphin crest to the reverse.
Home of Sir Walter Scott, Abbotsford House, Melrose, Scotland was
completed in 1824 after six years of construction. It was opened to the
public in1833, following thedeathof SirWalter Scott.
These silver topographical silver boxes were made in Birming-
ham and were very fashionable between circa 1830-1860. They
depicted British landmarks and at the time tended to be pur-
chasedby tourists as souvenirs.
