A complete suite of plates, as issued. 521 KEYNES, JOHN MAYNARD (1882-1946) Typed letter signed in full by John Maynard Keynes, single sheet 46, Gordon Square, Bloomsbury, dated October 17th 1934 to George O’Brien Esq., 3 Burlington Road, Dublin € 800 - 1,200 First Edition. The title bears the Basan‑only imprint (“A Paris, Chez Basan, Graveur, Avec Privilège du Roi, 1714”), representing the later 1714 emission of the first edition; ear- lier emissions carry Collombat or Le Hay/ Duchange addresses, with minor differences in preface and legends. Rebound with brown leather. This book is visual record of the Ottoman Empire and the eastern Mediterranean at the beginning of the 18th century, produced under the direction of Charles de Ferriol, French ambassador to the Sublime Porte (1699–1711). The plates are engraved after drawings by Van Mour and others in which costumes, ceremonies, and social types with exceptional detail and are presented.
