104 577 A RARE IRISH SILVER PRESENTATION DISH RING Dublin c.1916, mark of Weir & Sons, of typical waisted form, with pierced and chased decoration, of hounds amongst leafy scrollwork, with in- scribed cartouche ‘ PRESENTED TO/ JOHN KENNEDY ESQ/ BY/ LORD JUS- TICE MOLONY/ IN REMEBERANCE/ OF THE PERILS/ OF/ EASTER MONDAY 1916’ (13.3 troy ozs). 12cm high, 19cm wide Thomas Molony (1865 - 1949) was the last Lord Chief Justice of Ireland following the abolishment of the office in 1922. Following the 1916 rising he was appointed to several governmental inquiries, notably one on the shooting of Francis Sheehy-Skeffington. With the establishment of the Irish Free State the responsibility of the judiciary system fell to Molony. The John Kennedy in question in the inscription may have been the broth- er of Hugh Kennedy, the first Attorney General of the Irish Free State, who would have been around 30 years old in 1916. € 2,500 - 3,000 576 A GEORGE III SILVER SALVER, London 1809, maker’s mark of Henry Chawner, of shaped circular form, with raised pie-crust rim cast with scallops and scrollwork, the central reserve with stag head crest, engraved with a broad border of later decoration, raised on three cast scroll feet, with inscription to the underside ‘Presented to A. Stensby Rickford, by the members, as a mark of appreciation on the 50th Anniversary of the Manchester Rifle Club.
