Adam's The John Rogers Vintage Collection 27th July 2022

8 The John Rogers Vintage Poster Sale When John Rogers opened Gallery 29 in November 2004 it introduced an entirely new aspect to the Dublin art market. Sure, there were poster shops around the city, but none with the fastidious scholarship or sheer quality that was the hallmark of John’s approach. Gallery 29 was discreet and elegant, there was nothing obviously commer- cial about John’s approach. A visitor to the gallery might feel he was being granted an opportunity to view John’s private collection rather than visiting a shop. As Joe Christle recalled in his eulogy at John’s funeral: ‘He had a some- what peculiar sales technique. I remember going in and choosing a poster I wished to buy. John’s mouth turned down, his eyebrows shot up. “No, No, that is not for sale. I like that one myself, choose another one for yourself.”
