34 A JADE CARVING OF A LIDDED VASE TOGETHER WITH A PHOENIX CHINA, QING DYNASTY Carved out of a celadon stone. It rests on a rocky base with six (6) lingzhi fungus (immortality fungus), with a peach tree with two peaches and a phoenix bird standing on a large lingzhi fungus and holding a lingzhi sprig in its beak. The vase is of archaistic fanghu shape, its shoulder is flanked by two open-worked arched-shaped handles, it is topped by a dome-shaped lid with a lingzhi fungus finial. The inner part is well hollowed. The base is also carved with rocks. Offered at auction together with a matching parcel reticulated wooden stand. H (stand excluded): 16 cm Note: The phoenix (fenghuang - 凤 凰 ) symbolizes joy and peace. It is believed that the phoenix only makes an appearance during periods of prosperity, peace and good government. Lingzhi ( 灵芝 ) is the sacred fungus of immortality that grows on the trunks or roots of trees including the pine. A vase can represent the meaning of ‘peace’ or ‘safety’ because both the character for vase (ping - 瓶 ) and that for peace (pingan - 平安 ) are pronounced ‘ping’. The peach (tao - 桃 ) signifies symbolizes marriage, spring, justice and especially Daoist immortality (longevity).Weight: 653,2 grams €5,000 - €7,000
