12 For seasoned collectors of Asian Art, provenance plays a key role, dictating the difference between a lot of minor interest and one that cannot be ignored. ADAM’S is thrilled to present a Fine Chinese and Himalayan Art auction with pieces originating from several important collections. Amidst the notable consignments in the sale: a collection of Chinese antiques from the estate of Mr. Carlos Alfredo Tornquist Altgelt (1885-1953); a major collection of Tibe- to-Chinese gilt bronze sculptures, including an eleven-headed Avalokitesvara dating to 18th century, from Mr. Juan Carlos Katzenstein (1925-2018), who served as an Ambassa- dor to the « Holy See », i.e. the governing body for the Vatican and the Catholic Church; a selection of items from Señor Jorge Casares, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a reputed orni- thologist born in a wealthy landowning family, also a relative of the renowned Argentinian fiction author Adolfo Bioy Casares (1914-1999) and a fellow of W.H.
